Fuorisalone 2024: the “Atlas of Hospitality”

“Cena dell’Amicizia”, a voluntary organization that has been working with homeless and marginalized people for over 50 years, has chosen the context of the Milan Fuorisalone to launch a message through the “Atlas of Hospitality”. A third sector reality engages with the world of design and promotes the idea of a “project” that helps others.
In the exhibition space of Cena dell’Amicizia, in via Bezzecca 4 (Piazza V Giornate area), from 17 to 21 April 2024, the “Skyline of places of solidarity” of Milan will be put on display – on panels arranged in an amphitheater – such as canteens, dormitories, reception and listening places of different levels, including Friendship Dinner centres.

The event will also see the contribution of some young designers who will propose solidarity design projects, prototypes and sketches of original design objects relevant to the theme dedicated to people who live on the streets or in difficulty.
Curators of the event are Lorenzo Morganti, architect and teacher at the Polytechnic University of Milan and at the MFI Milano Fashion Institute, and Barbara Pietrasanta, artist and communication designer and teacher of Communication Design at PoliDesign, MFI and other cultural institutions. Creativity and coordination by Anyway Comunication.

The Atlante dell’Accoglienza will have the original soundtrack by the young musician Antonio Orio with a sampling of urban sounds that will act as the ambient sound for the installation. Lamberto Bertolé, councillor for Welfare and Health of the Municipality of Milan, who sponsors the initiative, said: “Milan has a great tradition of solidarity and telling the stories of the protagonists on the occasion of important events such as the Fuorisalone is an opportunity to involve , and perhaps inspire, citizens, encouraging them to get to know the city network that Milan – through its institutions, the social fabric and the generosity of many Milanese people – has been able to build to help the most vulnerable people escape from a condition of fragility that must never become chronic”. The project aims to raise public awareness but also to stimulate the world of design and its actors towards an ethical approach, attentive to fragility and accessibility, to the diversity of cultures, genders, ethnic groups and abilities, but also to the use of recycled materials, efficient production processes and long-lasting products, in line with the “Materia Natura” theme of the Fuorisalone 2024. Designers have a social responsibility in shaping opinions and behaviors and design can solve real problems and improve quality of life, playing a significant role in promoting social and environmental sustainability.
The event is sponsored by: Department of Welfare and Health of the Municipality of Milan and fio.PSD, Italian Federation of organizations for homeless people.
